Bio
A Doctor's Journey (But Not Your Typical One)I didn't start out in medicine. In fact, I jumped into medical school when most of my peers were hitting their stride in their first careers. But here's the thing about taking the scenic route to becoming a doctor: it gives you a perspective that you just can't get from going straight through.Think of it this way - I've been on both sides of the healthcare system. I've dealt with office politics, navigated bureaucracy, and learned how the "real world" works. Now I'm using that knowledge to shake things up in healthcare, but in a good way. I've got the fresh eyes of a new doctor combined with the backbone that comes from years of experience. Yeah, it makes me a bit of a troublemaker, but the kind that actually gets things done. Here's the thing about me - I'm a walking contradiction. I'm a total geek who's comfortable in their own skin. I'm probably the worst dancer you'll ever meet, but you'll still find me on the dance floor. I can't carry a tune solo, but put me next to someone who can actually sing, and I'll harmonize all day long.Life's too short to stay in your comfort zone, right? That's why I've run marathons, flown medical evacuation helicopters, jumped out of perfectly good airplanes, explored the ocean's depths, and scaled both rocks and ice. Oh, and I served as a combat leader as as calvaryman and as a combat medic. I keep a journal to make sense of it all.
I'm passionate about
Simple: keeping people healthy. All people. Because if there's one thing I've learned, it's that health isn't just personal - it's connected. Your health affects my health, which affects everyone's health. We're all in this together, whether we like it or not.
An idea worth spreading
Transparency. Not just the buzzword kind, but real, meaningful openness. Want to fix healthcare? Education? Social inequality? Start by pulling back the curtain. Our world's too small and too connected to hide things anymore. The changes we're seeing in media and politics? That's just the beginning.

The TED story
I'd been following TED talks since 2005, but sitting at TEDGlobal in 2012 changed everything. Watching John Wilbanks talk about pooling medical data hit me like a lightning bolt. It perfectly captured what I'd been trying to say from both sides of the stethoscope. One note I scribbled down that day still sticks with me: "Among people of thought and goodwill, the world is a very small place."That's what it's all about - breaking down walls between patients and doctors, between data and solutions, between what is and what could be. That's where the real magic happens.Want to know more? My feeds are an open book - more than a decade of unfiltered thoughts and experiences. Because if I'm going to talk about transparency, I better walk the walk, right?
