Bio
Sheryl Winarick is an immigration attorney and advocate based in Austin, TX and previously Washington, DC. She can do her work from anywhere, so she will likely say YES if you invite her to visit :)
As a TED Resident in 2016, Sheryl spent 3 months at TED HQ incubating a project to explore culture, identity and migration. Since then, she’s been traveling around the USA and the world, connecting people where they live, often over a home-cooked meal.
In 2018, she drove over 10,000 miles through 20 countries in Eastern Europe and Asia, from Germany to Mongolia, in a little car painted by graffiti artists along the way. Local partners - mostly TEDx organizers - hosted community gatherings with immigrants, refugees, and residents to offer insight, identify challenges, and propose solutions.
Sheryl's project is called The Art of Migration - both to honor the act of migration as an art, and to honor the role art can play in navigating complex challenges.

The TED story
My friend Julie forwarded me the Dave Eggers video in 2008 and I was hooked. Then, in 2011, Bruce Campbell introduced me to the TED team when they were seeking an immigration attorney. Now, TED is my client and the global TEDx community is like family!
