Bio
Sara Gawhary is a vibrant women’s right and civil society activist in Balkh-Afghanistan. She is a confidant servant leader whose impact is making noticeable and ululated changes in the society. Ms. Gawhay has a vast experience in counseling, teaching, peer to peer coaching and management of private schools. Through her persistence and hard work, she graduated from , Gawhar Khatoon high school in 2010 after she successfully passed the national exam (Kankor). Thereafter, she enrolled in the law School of Balkh University. . Law was her favorite study and it is during this time that she did some extensive research including the interpretation of the Afghanistan Constitution, focusing on the “History of international Humanitarian Rights during the War” . Her work was published on Bayan- Haq journal at the university level . As swell she had several achievements. She was recognized as one of the 10th best essay writers by the international journals for having worked as an exemplary researcher with various international journals.
Due to her achievements as a best scholar, she was recognized at the University level to and selected to participate in Legal Education Support Program- Afghanistan (LESPA) at the School of Law of the University of Washington in 2014. She also participated in debate in Afghan Progressive Thinking program in Balk. Among all the Law students she succeed in an internship program in Rule of Law at the University level. This internship was fully funded by GIZ. Sarah also studied English in Silk Road English Center in 2015 and And studied English (TOEFAL Class) in Professional Development Institute (PDI) in 2016.
Sara has also worked as a counselor and trainer under the GIZ Role of law and as a volunteer professor at the Law & Political science faculty. At the same time, she devoted her time to increasing legal knowledge, professional skills, thesis writing, researching methods, and capacity building of other female students on the matters of law & Sharia . She attended several capacity building trainings with legal and judicial organizations. During this time, she interacted with professional lawyers, judges and professors .,Through her campaigns, more than 800 female were able to participate in these workshops and at the end, about 300 of them succeeded to join various job fair programs, internship programs some in different go vernal organizations such as Afghanistan Independent Bar Association, Court of appeal, Prosecutor’s office, Human Rights commission, Department of Justice and the Department of Women Affairs.
Through the initiative of Promote (Women’s Leadership Development) USAID program, she trained more than 1000 female participants, as part of preparing and championing women to be future leaders of the society. The topics focused on how women can lead the society from different dimensions, and gaining financial independence. . This training was fruitful and about 500 of them have been working on different projects of their own and have produced their own handicrafts, creativity and ideas.
As a Women’s right and civil society activist, and painter she has conducted many activities through the PARDIS gallery walk sessions in Balkh and it is through these activities that she has expressed her sense, ideas and raised her voice for advocating and lobbying for women’s rights through her paintings.
Recently, she graduated from the Leadership program at the Institute of Leadership Development (ILD) with the highest score. Now as a servant leader and change maker in society she is working with ILD volunteers to translate several books into English books. Furthermore, she currently serves a Co- organizer, TOEFL instructor and Education advisor of the SRS (Society of Rogue Scholar) consultancy, where she inspires, uplift, and motivate youth in becoming their best versions. She does this through conferences, seminars, and motivational speeches .Likewise, she is as Co-leader on North GBV in 2020 and has conducted awareness raising sessions for females at the society level,
Sara is the first lady as a Lead-Organizer of TEDx Mazar, Conference in Balkh, Afghanistan. Recently, she finished her Master degree program in Business and Management in Kazakh American Free University with highest (A) score in writing thesis on Effective conflict management in non-governmental organization in 2020.
