Bio

Dr. Katherine (Katie) Mack is a theoretical astrophysicist specializing in cosmology, with a particular focus on dark matter, the early universe, and the ultimate fate of the cosmos. Holding the Hawking Chair in Cosmology and Science Communication at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Dr. Mack is recognized for her research on dark matter, vacuum decay, and cosmic dawn and reionization. She has contributed significantly to the field through her work on galaxy formation, astroparticle physics, and theoretical cosmology. In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Mack is deeply committed to science communication and outreach, engaging in public lectures, media appearances, and science writing to make physics more accessible to a wider audience and bridge the gap between science and the public.

I'm passionate about

Understanding the universe, and sharing what I've learned.

An idea worth spreading

The universe had a beginning, and it will have an end. Understanding where we came from and where we're going gives us a chance to examine our purpose and our legacy as a species and as thinking beings. As a physicist, I'm interested in the technical questions and how to answer them, but we all have a right to the knowledge of our place in the cosmos and to decide for ourselves how that should change our perspective.
