Bio

I love to listen to stories and help others tell theirs. So often these stories can be super helpful to find solutions to problems, build and strengthen relationships, open doors to opportunity, and so much more. Though Arca Morai I support small business owners to position themselves to be recognised as an authority in their field, creating opportunities for them to grow and scale their business. I believe that everyone should be able to live and work in a safe and healthy environment, free of contaminants detrimental to their health and things that leap out and squash them. As the Principal Consultant at Effective Hazard Management and Indoor Air Quality Solutions, I get the opportunity to work with businesses of all sizes across a wide variety of industries to identify, investigate and resolve health and safety workplace hazards. I believe that OH&S systems should support a business and its growth, not create a bureaucracy and evidence for the coroner and that a scientific or incident investigation report should tell the story of what happened/why/what should be done - not a bunch of facts, figures, tables and graphs without context or meaning - that is what appendices are for. I believe that we were put on this earth to do more than to work to generate money to pay bills and that by working together to solve problems and give each other support to solve problems we can all achieve far more than we ever dreamed possible. My passion for storytelling aside, I formally trained as a Geologist who, after working in both exploration and mining completely changed careers, without changing employers, joining ‘the dark side’ first in Health and Safety then moving into Occupational Hygiene specialising in indoor environments. I hold a three Advances Diploma’s, a Bachelor of Science with First Class honours, a Master’s Degree and most of a PhD, none of which are particularly useful in helping me live my dreams, but they did make my Mum proud… After a particularly challenging 2004 I decided that enough was enough, my 8am – 6pm corporate life had to go so, much to my Dad’s horror, I turned down my promotion to Manager, resigned from the biggest mining company in the world to follow my heart and do things my own way. I now run two businesses between dealing with an out of control ‘hobby’ of 106 beehives. I am all about challenging the way we run businesses, particularly small businesses... so they are what we dreamed them to be, not the thing that drags us under, never to be seen or heard from again.

I'm passionate about

Where to start - so many things: * Supporting people to find and use their voice * Coaching children to learn to sail * Beekeeping * Volunteering * Sailing * Scuba diving * Underwater videography * Storytelling * Capturing out verbal history *.....

An idea worth spreading

We were put on this earth to do more than to work to generate money to pay bills - by working together to solve problems and give each other support to solve problems and have a voice we can all achieve far more than we ever dreamed possible
