Bio

For more than two decades, I have worked in the communications arena, focused on marketing, public relations and public affairs. My time has been with US Government, including legislative and executive branches, and the private sector -- on both the agency and company side. I have served as a Director, Trustee and as Advisory Board member for several organizations and am recognized by the National Association of Corporate Directors as a Governance Fellow. In these roles, I have worked on strategic planning, succession planning, hiring new Executive Director/CEO, restructuring, and governance changes. I have also chaired strategic planning, marketing and public relations committees.(Please see my downloadable Director's Resume here on my LinkedIn profile.) Specialties: Reputation management, management consulting, government relations, public policy, public affairs, CSR, business strategy, business development, sales, cause marketing, education, turnaround/distressed companies, public relations, marketing, strategic counsel, crisis management, governance, general communications, branding, marketing, positioning.

I'm passionate about

Ideas. And the variety of them, the melting pot of ideas.

An idea worth spreading

I struggle with the idea of capturing local leaders/visionaries and ensuring that their story will be around in some way in the future. Is it a video project? Is it mapped to educational curriculum? Is it used in last few weeks of public school when teachers have given the tests and no longer teach? To me there are leaders and community activists with good stories who may not be best suited to a stage, yet how will their stories live on?

Areas of expertise

Crisis + Issues Management, Management Consulting, marketing, PR, Communications, Speechwriting/Coaching Speakers

The TED story

I have been around speakers and their content for a long time. Growing up I attended Renaissance Weekend and learned about how everyone has a voice and even a topic with which they can add their perspective. My first job out of college was as a speechwriter for a Member of Congress. And through the years, I have coached presenters of business plans, prepped people for media interviews, written speeches/talking points, etc. Some I do professionally, some for fun.

Things you might not know

Putting random things together - people, food, events, activities - and making it seamless and usually successful. And I am pretty good at public speaking and media interviews.
