Katya Aragão

Katya Aragão was born in São Tomé and Príncipe on January 17, 1986. She is a journalist by profession, curious by nature and passionate producer. Recently, she made her directorial debut with her first short film "Mina Kiá". She likes to learn about everything that surrounds her, she is a “serial reader”, she believes in the power of dreams and great ideas. She is editor-in-chief of STPDigital.net, organizer of TEDxSãoTomé, an activist at the NGO Galo Cantá, of which she was founder and president. Graduated in Communications and Culture Sciences - Communication and Journalism from the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies (Lisbon, Portugal). She is characterized by great adaptability and proactivity in the environment in which it is inserted. She believes in the empowerment of young people and women and loves being a team player.

I am a free spirit moved by curiosity and that's probably why I decided to become a journalist. I love to meet new people, travel (if I could I would only stay in the same place for a month), learn about different cultures and places. I am passionate about life it self, about doing what I love and give my contribution for the development of my country. One of my biggest passions is TEDx. The nine months my team and I spend putting the TEDxSãoTomé event together is probably one of the most pleasant and joyful things of my life. I really love sharing ideas that can change the world because I believe in the power of the great ideas.

All we need is love! It is possible to cause a positive impact in people's life by telling stories of real life heroes.

I was chatting with my long time friend from College on skype. We were talking about our lives and what we wanted to do. Then he told me about a TEDx event he went in Rome and how much he loved it. He got my attention when he started telling me all about the event. I was so curious to find out more about TEDx that while we were still talking I googled TEDx. The more I was discovering about TED and TEDx, the more I wanted to know. Then as we spoke we both decided that it would be amazing to do a TEDx event in Sao Tome. And so, we immediately thought about themes and a date for the event. At the time, we didn't even know about the rules but we started searching for tedxerters close to Sao Tome such as Luanda (TEDxLuanda) and Porto (TEDxOPorto) for more informations. Fortunately, as we expected they were glad to help us on our path to this great adventure.
