I'm a founding partner of Carbon Imagineering, a UK-based emerging technologies think tank incubating a number of technology startups as well as contributing expertise to various media properties, including Giga Om's Web Worker Daily. Previously, I've been a Deputy Director of R&D for Orange UK, part of the advisory boards of O’Reilly’s ETel conference, Treasuremytext and the eComm 2008 and 2009 conferences, as as well as being on the boards of Ensembli (also as cofounder) and bmedi@. I've also written for O’Reilly Media, Corante and TechCrunch UK. I'm also the founder of 'LSx' - the Leeds Web Festival - a mini-TED, now into it's second year. Also, shortly launching DayLeeds, a local news service, and Dotnorth, a regional technology cultures blog.

The TED story

Hmm, what's a TED story? How was I invited? Nokia kindly contacted me out of the blue with a sponsored place at TED Global 2009! I nominated Professor Salim Al-Hassani as a Global TED Fellow for this year - a wonderfully accomplished and inquisitive mind, doing great work. I'm sure he'll be part of TED's future :) Now that I'm a TED and FooCamp alumni - I just need Web 2.0 Summit for my trifecta of exclusive tech conferences! I've also produced and programmed two editions of TEDxLeeds, brought Leeds into the TEDxChange and TEDWomen webcasts and will shortly be producing the first TEDxBradford.
