Bio

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and executive board member of one of the largest University Medical Centers (UMC) in the Netherlands. The Radboud University Medical Center is a merger of the Academic Hospital and the Medical Faculty and employs 10,300 people. As CEO, he is responsible for making the necessary changes that will bring the institution into the new healthcare era. He initiated a major turn-around of the Radboud UMC in 2007, focusing on redefining the core-values with regard to: patients first, strive for (pursue) the best quality of patient care, research and education, restructuring the organization and design and implement a new model for budget allocation. His strategic focus is on: 1. The delivery of demonstrable excellent and distinctive quality of healthcare in terms of both the medical outcome and the patient-reported outcome. 2. Cutting edge innovations in medical science and healthcare delivery.

I'm passionate about

Creating a sustainable healthcare-system for each and everyone all over the world.

An idea worth spreading

As CMO and then CEO of the Radboud University Medical Center, i realized a much more focused and vigorous leadership model for a health science system. It has significantly increased the responsibility of the system’s units and its leadership teams, both on an individual and organizational level, which resulted in significant improvements in the quality (outcome) of patient care, education and research. Fact-based, systemic, consistent and pragmatic approach and decisive leadership style has helped to establish a new performance level that has become a benchmark for other executive teams of hospital systems.

The TED story

Simon Sinek's" Start with Why" and "first why then trust" at our own TEDxMaastricht. These two talks give inspiration to many all around the world and i use them a lot myself. The simplicity of Simon's way of explaining, the to-the-point analysis and his no-nonsense way of addressing the audience, made me change the way i look at things.
