The TED story

In September of 2015, My friend Ajantha approached my looking to start a Tedx club at our school. I jumped on the oppourtunity to get involved, although I have to admit I had no idea just how much this decision would come to mean to me. That first year I was a graphic designer and speaker on LGBT issues. What began as a small group of students meeting weekly to watch talks, quickly turned into a group looking to host a Tedx even at our school. It was a massive undertaking, involving months of planning and preparation but It would eventually pay off. On April 29th, 2016 we ran our first TEDx event. The event was, in my mind, an overwhelming success, with 3 student speakers and 2 live performances. The topics of the speeches were phenomenal and relevant to modern society: LGBTQ+ individuals being martyrs, the power of social media, and living with synesthesia (a unique neurological condition which results in a crossing of the senses). In the fall of 2016, I assumed the position of organizer in place of Ajantha. I am eager to create a tradition within our school of hosting this event. If theres one thing I have learned from tedx is that each one of us has a story to tell. All we have to do is listen.
