The TED story
The first time I heard of TED was at TED event called TEDxSoweto, I worked (and still do at the time of writing this) for a global campaign to raise awareness about the Millennium Development Goals called Shake The World and we were sponsoring their speakers with sets of colourful bracelets made by a network of rural crafts women. I met Kelo Kubu and Ithateng Makgoro that evening at the networking reception after what shall forever remain the coolest event I have ever had the privilege to attend. I had never been to anything like that before, don't get me wrong, I had been to many conferences prior to TEDxSoweto BUT I had never my jaw at my feet before. Anyway, I walked up to Kelo and asked her if I could volunteer at the next TEDxSoweto and she said YES...YES, jumping up and down, ok, ok, maybe that's not how it happened BUT the following year I started volunteering at TEDxSoweto, TEDxJohannesburg , TEDxJohannesburgWomen. And now, I watch at least two TEDTalks a day.
