Bio
Chris Carvalho has twenty years of management and ten plus years of digital entertainment experience with a proven track record creating and levering new opportunities, operating businesses, and leading hyper growth teams.
He currently is the COO of Kabam, the leader in free-to-play core gaming. In his tenure Kabam has grown to over $100M of gross revenue and 500+ employees. It has gone from a Facebook gaming company developing and publishing one game on one platform in one language to over ten games on multiple platforms in 15+ languages.
Prior to that he launched SmartyCard, winner of the People's Choice award at DEMO 09, for its first of its kind children's consumer payment service.
The bulk of Chris' digital media career was spent at Lucasfilm where he headed up Business Development and ran the company's internet division. In his BD role he spearheaded the growth of StarWars.com from a purely marketing site, with no revenue, into a profitable business with multi-million dollar annual revenues. He also completed wide ranging deals from Star Wars’ TV appearance on the Apprentice to M&A to major technology deals while working closely with senior management of all divisions.
For the Lucasfilm internet division, Chris had operational and P&L responsibility for Lucas Online, and crafted all of the major business deals, including ones with established companies like Yahoo, Apple, and AOL and startups like Eyespot, Zazzle, and TalkCity. Chris was the driving force behind Lucas’ Digital Media initiatives – identifying opportunities and crafting partnerships that generated significant new revenue streams.
Prior to coming to Lucasfilm, Chris spent seven years as a management consultant, with Deloitte & Touche, consulting to executives in a range of companies, from startups to the Fortune 500. Chris has served as a speaker at numerous events including the Stanford Graduate School of Business Future of Content and Digital Hollywood conferences.
