Lewis Perkins is a champion for women and the environment in both his personal and professional life. As an “expert” blogger on sustainability for Fast Company Magazine and through his role as environmental advocate for Mohawk Industries, Perkins continues to serve as a thought leader on many social and environmental issues facing companies and our world today. He is currently developing and co-authoring the “Green Heroes” book project with environmental activists Laura Turner Seydel. As I heard HH The Dalai Lama's quote, I began to think of the countless women I have met in my life and work who are dedicated to creating solutions for the betterment of mankind and the planet. And these women are not only from the West, but I see collaborations developing and growing between Western women and the rest of the world. The purpose of this website (wswnow.com) is to begin to document a conversation about women who are literally working to save the world. These heroine actions can be both big and small and many will take place in our own backyards. This site will include interviews conducted by me – some video and some podcast. Hopefully others will feel compelled to highlight stories and interviews with women in their lives who are making significant impact for change. I encourage both women and men to be a part of this dialogue and ongoing documentation because this conversation is important to us all.

I did not grow up in a home where women were demeaned. There was no abuse. No misogyny. No violence. So when I entered school and the world at large, I was confused to see how boys and girls were treated differently. I remember being told that certain behaviors were appropriate for a boy and certain behaviors were appropriate for a girl. And I remember feeling that any crossing of those lines was not acceptable and in fact I was made to feel shame and guilt for being a creative, empathetic boy. So not only did it make more sense to embrace the masculine as I developed myself into a young man – it was a critical requirement for survival. In creating Women Are Saving The World Now (www.wswnow.com ), my intent is not only to honor the manifold women who are creating significant chance for our human race on the planet, but also to lead a dialogue between men and woman on what the Dalai Lama’s quote means to us all. And what it means to be feminine.
