Madoo earned her PhD in Genetics and went on to become a Common-Wealth Post Doctoral Scholar at Cambridge University, UK . ; followed by 13 years in Biotech R&D in Silicon Valley, California. As a senior scientist at Gene Labs she worked on target discovery efforts aimed at isolation of anti-inflammation factors and hepatitis viruses. Dr. Varma worked on development of fFN diagnostic tests for the prediction of pre-term labor in women at Adeza followed by two years at the Stanford Medical School Blood Bank. Madoo spent five years managing all inbound and outbound microarray marketing at Hewlett Packard/Agilent. She was also instrumental in co-negotiating the Rosetta/Agilent alliance in addition to defining microarray product requirements. She received further professional training in finance, marketing, IP, project and alliance management at various UC programs. Madoo spent another six years as a director of strategic planning and business development in corporate venture at Applied Biosystems where she was a key member of the executive strategy team. She headed the external technology assessment board. She was responsible not only for identifying key opportunities in genomics, proteomics and cell biology, but also in closing key deals for the company ranging from strategic alliances, equity investments, IP/asset purchase/supply agreements to SRA-R&D collaborations. She was chosen to assist the Roche executive team that was brought in to launch Celera Diagnostics, with strategy/business plan formulation. In December 2005, Madoo joined Intel as the Director of Strategic Marketing and planning to help define the business direction for the Biomedical Life Science unit within the Digital Health Group. Currently, she is directing research and business operations of Integrated Biosystems Program at Future Technologies Research, Intel Labs, Intel. She was recently nominated to National Academy of Sciences panel on electronics and electrical engineering.
