Bio

I have a lot of labels, but they are just that - labels. They don't define me. What defines me is my altruistic nature. I am a Badass social entrepreneur who leverages her business acumen to solve community problems. I'm in the business of people and community. Whether it's helping people succeed in business or organizing communities to address social challenges. That means I have a compassionate and empathetic heart and every endeavor I take on - must first touch my heart THEN it must make business sense. Now for the labels and the story, I am a 6th generation Washingtonian who grew up in poverty. My mother always instilled in me that education is the key to success. She also told me that I will ALWAYS struggle because I am Black AND a woman. Something to this day, I am passionate about changing that mentality for the next generation of women. So, when I received my MBA in Finance, she was surprised that instead of working in the banking or corporate field, I choice to invest my time in the nonprofit arena. Becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer was my proudest moment -- not obtaining my MBA. Oh, also representing AmeriCorps Alums in President Obama's Inauguration parade in 2009. Since then, I have been using my business acumen to develop innovative solutions to amass social capital to address social and economic challenges. I have a strong track record in developing and implementing various community and business initiatives using corporate business strategies in the US, Europe, and Africa. I've worked with multi-million dollar domestic & international corporations as well as NGO's. But my passion still lies within helping people. I am the President of the Board of the Directors for the Washington DC branch of the American Association for University of Women, President of the Board of Directors for the Mary Church Terrell Foundation in Washington DC, Chief Executive Officer for an international nonprofit organization - Journey to Your Promised Land, Inc, an AmeriCorps VISTA alumni, and Principal for Webster's Wealth Management Solutions Corporation. I have a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finance from Trinity Washington University, a Bachelors of Science degree in Organizational Management from Columbia Union College, certification in hate and bias crimes from FLETC, several certifications in finance and community organizing, and a certification in community building and organizing from NeighborWorks America.
