Erin Carlson

Erin E. Carlson is an Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Minnesota. She received her B.A. at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and went on to graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, earning a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Subsequently, Dr. Carlson performed postdoctoral studies at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA and started her independent career at Indiana University in 2008. She moved her research group to the University of Minnesota in the summer of 2014. Since the start of her independent career, Dr. Carlson has won numerous awards including being named a Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) recipient, a Pew Biomedical Scholar, the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, the Indiana University Outstanding Junior Faculty Award, the NSF CAREER Award, the Cottrell Scholar Award and was named a Sloan Research Fellow, an ACS WCC Rising Star and an Indiana University Dean's Fellow. Her research group is pursuing the discovery of the master regulators of bacterial growth and communication and ultimately, the identification of new antibiotics through the application of diverse tools at the interface of chemistry and biology.
