Once we produce information at a higher rate than we can effectively filter and consume, we can no longer count on continuing accelerating progress, because information that hasn't been consumed can't be the substrate of future growth. The need to develop better filters to avoid diminishing returns on research. If we can't consume the information we produce anymore, we can't use it as substrate for growth.

No progress can be made without the progress before it, and no discoverer of the great discoveries could have seen further without the help of those that went before. What if the acceleration of progress were actually to slow down? Is there a point where the rate at which information is produced exceeds our ability to distribute and consume said information? Can our society which has leveraged continuing exponential growth so much, subsist with slowing growth? In any case, we'll be better off by far if we can fix information filtering before our growth starts to slow.
