The notion of the self with regard to time can be quite heavily rethought in my view. I am an advocate for considering each action this body undertakes as the manifestation of a different self entirely. I admonish the bad self who perpetrated unfavourable actions and congratulate the self who succeeds. This is easiest to comprehend when we examine large time scales. Consider how much you have in common with your five year old self: I personally have wholly different ambitions, desires, skills, vocabulary and understanding of my surroundings. I treat my five year old self as a family relation separated by time much as my brother is a relation separated in space. I've managed to derive a great deal of positivity from this perspective when I consider how I've acted in the past (or, to adopt a more radical nomenclature in line with this new thinking, "who" has acted in the past). I feel more optimistic and have a greater sense of control over my future. That alone is a great empowerment.

My TED story began with TEDxImperialCollege in 2012. I was a volunteer on the day, acting as a runner for speakers and organisers. I loved the whole experience. I'd caught the bug. Off the back of TEDxIC I was asked to become part of the committee for TEDMEDLive Imperial, the first such event to take place outside of the US. I was heavily involved in the organisation of that event and in the week prior to our 450 person event in London, flew to DC to experience TEDMED itself after achieving a frontline scholarship for my work with TEDMEDLive. It was one of the most incredible weeks of my life. The people I met and the things I saw taught me more than I ever could have hoped for. Following TEDMEDLive, I joined the TEDxAlbertopolis team to coordinate volunteers and assist front of house operations for their 4500 person event at the Royal Albert Hall. Putting aside the event's scale, the speakers were astonishing, the venue beautiful and the day(luckily) went off without a hitch.
