Bio
Ian has been an entrepreneur from an early age, having sold his first piece of software at age 14 (written in Dbase 2 on an old CP/M system - ask your parents!) This early engagement with the Internet and personal computer technology at its inception has afforded him deep insights into the evolution of both business and consumer technologies.
Following his undergraduate education (Electrical Engineering BSCEng), Ian (who had seen very little of the world) decamped for a planned 3 year around-the-planet adventure. For someone so untravelled it was an eye-opening experience. However, after 3 years of itinerant work he hadn't managed to make it out of Europe (!) and he returned home to start his own third-party logistics and customs brokerage software company.
The success of this venture meant that opportunities arose in other markets. Ian (who had very little experience in International business) decided that an internationally-focused business degree might prove useful, so it was back to France to enrol at INSEAD, where he graduated with an MBA.
Ian's past experience as a singer as well as his deep understanding of Internet technologies made him a perfect match for Anderson Consulting's nascent NYC Media and Entertainment strategy practice.
6 years later, in 2001, Ian returned to Canada to reinstall himself as head of his Logistics Software company, NoGlobalBorders, expanding it from a software company to a services enterprise, with customers throughout North America.
As his team at NoGlobalBorders had the company running as a well-oiled machine, Ian decided that the time was right to start a passion project. He founded Bon Vivant Spirits Agents, with the mission of making available to Canadian bars and restaurants a portfolio of artisanal and hard-to-find spirits.
Technology, cocktails, travel, entrepreneurship, politics, cycling, health tech, the philosophy of hospitality, pop culture and food (both the cooking and the eating of): These are the things that keep Ian busy now, and finding ways to integrate these passions into a purposeful life is what keeps him energized.
