Vidmantas Tomkus

Vidmantas Tomkus received MSc degree in Physics from Vilnius University. 1985 he worked in the Institute of Semiconductors of Lithuania. 1990 he started business activities as a broker at First Lithuanian Commodity Exchange and from 1994 until present time has worked at different positions in Telecommunications and Satellite industry like CTO at Radio M-1, CEO at Dicto Citius UAB and Arcus Novus.UAB 2007- he was assigned as an Expert of Interministry Working groups of National Space Program, Integrated Programs in ICT, Mechatronics, Lasers, New Materials, Strategy of Research Infrastructures of Lithuania, Member of Council of Institute Semiconductor Physics of Lithuania and Chairman of National Space Technology Platform of Lithuania. From 2009 Vidmantas Tomkus is acting as a director of Lithuanian Space Association and deals with promotion of Space related activities of Lithuanian R&D institutions and SME's, co-operation with European Space Agency, bilateral relations with National Space Agencies and companies working in the Space industry. 2010 he was assigned as FP7 Space expert from Lithuania.

Open source Space technology project. Many nations consider the space as a strategic asset and prevent the co-operation in the field of space technologies. Lessons from the past proved that the end of cold war and lack of governmental financing does not stop the development of space innovation. People are passionated to learn the space, to travel in the space. Commercial astropreneurs are booming. Open source projects like Human genome or Android software are good example how quick could be the development of the open collaborative project. Space is huge, the amount of information is increasing exponentially and could even lead to singularity collapse. Co-operation and knowledge sharing are more advantageous than the work in the closed communities. We need open source code to live in the true reality of the space grid!
