I'm passionate about
am passionate about many things, but mental health & wellbeing and increasing social mobility are definitely a few key things that I am passionate about. In sixth-form I sat in my local youth Parliament for two years and I worked on various projects; the quality/accessibility of work experience for secondary school students, and the line between discipline and abuse. I believe that everyone should have access to quality education and support to help them achieve their dreams. I further strongly believe that more needs to be done in regards to mental health and well-being because it is still an issue which affects many people, but especially young people.
The TED story
I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to speak about the importance of ‘being our neighbour’s keeper’ and the dangers of ‘the bystander effect’. Student suicide is at an alarmingly high rate in Hong Kong and Mainland China. After receiving emails about students who committed suicide on campus, I felt compelled to do something. So I decided to speak about this issue in order to raise awareness, and, encourage others to be mindful regarding their peers. Speaking to over four hundred people was a great opportunity to practice my public speaking skills, and, raise awareness about abut a serious issue.
