Bio

Julia Cheng is a business and technology attorney specializing in general corporate, digital media, IoT, technology licensing and internet law matters with clients based in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. For more than 15 years, Julia works with for profit and nonprofit clients through the life cycle of a business, from business formation to capital raise, product and business development, to achieving industry recognition (Emmy, Google Best Apps of 2017, Ted Prize Finalist, etc) and partnership deals with Fortune 100 companies including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, CNN, GE, Samsung and NFL. Julia advises clients on corporate matters ranging from corporate and securities, mergers and acquisitions, to capital raise through various equity/debt financing transactions involving crowdfunding platforms, angels and venture capital. For her digital media clients Julia counsels them on matters related to the development, publishing and distribution of mobile apps, podcasts, videos, copyright and trademark protection, social e-commerce, Internet and data privacy issues. For her technology clients Julia routinely drafts or negotiates technology licensing and development agreements, MSAs, VSAs, SRAs, SOWs and SLAs. Julia also helps social media and event production agencies in negotiating contracts with institutional clients and vendors. Prior to starting CyberlawStudio, Julia practiced corporate law at the Wall Street law firm of Cadwalader Wickersham and Taft and served as the general counsel of a wireless technology entertainment startup. Julia grew up in Japan and Taiwan (18 years) and is a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese (read and write), majored in pre-medicine/psychology at the Johns Hopkins University and studied electronic music production at Juilliard School of Music. Julia is admitted to practice in New York and California.
