Julia Cheiffetz

Julia Cheiffetz is Vice President, Publisher of a new imprint at Simon & Schuster / Atria focusing on narrative nonfiction, particularly books on politics and feminism. She was previously Executive Editor of Dey Street Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, where she published the New York Times bestsellers Unbelievable by NBC Correspondent Katy Tur, Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Irin Carmon & Shana Knizhnik, Sex Object by the Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti, Forward by soccer legend and activist Abby Wambach, and The World According to Star Wars by Cass R. Sunstein. Recently, Julia worked on Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen by Jose Antonio Varga, as well as NAACP Award nominee Rabbit which the Washington Post calls “unforgiving and darkly hilarious.” Julia has published numerous other award-winning authors and New York Times Bestsellers including Devil in the Grove by Gilbert King, a story about a little known civil rights case which won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for nonfiction and was called "a richly detailed chronicle of racial injustice" by the Pulitzer committee. Julia spent the first six years of her publishing career at Random House where she edited many esteemed authors. She is on the Board of Directors of the Lower Eastside Girls Club where she has volunteered for over a decade. Before HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster, she was Editorial Director at Amazon and wrote about her experience working there, which helped lead to sweeping changes in the company’s parental leave policies for hundreds of thousands of men, women, and warehouse workers.
