About Jane

Bio

Jane Abraham owns two women’s clothing and accessories boutiques in northern Virginia with her daughter that are part of the Scout & Molly’s franchise. She has spent much of her career working in the non-profit arena and has served on the Susan G Komen National Board, Covenant House Michigan Board, Meridian International Center Board, the Lab School of Washington Board and Claremont McKenna College Parent Network Board. In 2015, Jane was appointed by the Senate Majority Leader to a Congressional Commission to study the need for and logistics of establishing an American Women’s History Museum. The 8-member commission selected her as their chairman. In November 2016 the commission unanimously recommended that there should be a women’s history museum, it should happen now and it should be part of the Smithsonian. It was recommended that given the lead time and logistics of establishing a museum, the first step should be an American Women’s History Initiative at the Smithsonian that would begin to hire curators and establish programming. The Smithsonian embraced this recommendation and has launched this Initiative. Jane has been asked to serve on the Advisory Council for the American Women’s History Initiative. Jane is active in the political arena on the Republican side of the equation. She is married to Spencer Abraham, who served in the US Senate representing Michigan for 6 years and Secretary of Energy for 4 years. They have three children— twin 25 year old daughters and a 22 year old son.
